Our Charity Collection - 2006
SHOEBOX APPEAL
This year for our charity appeal, pupils from Antrim Primary
School donated shoeboxes filled with items such as a new
toothbrush, toothpaste, gloves, scarves, small games, kitchen
utensils, comb, pens, pencils, shampoo and non chocolate
sweets. The shoebox could be made up to give to a boy, girl,
teenage boy or girl or an adult. Other children contibuted items
to put into a shoebox - these were put into a large, brown class
box. The shoeboxes are then being sent by Blythswood Care
charity to children, teenagers and adults in Eastern Europe, as
Christmas presents.

There were exactly 300 shoeboxes handed over to Sandra, a
representative from Blythswood Care charity on Thursday
26th October, just prior to the P6 Harvest Assembly. There was
also a large box collected from each classroom, with many
extra itemsto make up other shoeboxes! Once again the
generosity of pupils and parents was shown by the amazing
response to this appeal. Well done everybody! Many needy
people in Eastern Europe are going to have an extra special
Christmas thanks to the contributions from Antrim Primary.
THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF WEIRD
CBBC are currently filming a brand new factual game-show
called "The Wonderful World of Weird" - a series of fifteen 45
minute shows which will be broadcast in February 2007. The
series is aimed at children aged 8-12.

As part of this series of programmes, CBBC were filming the
Really Rubbish Orchestra and were looking for children who
had previously participated in making instruments out of
rubbish. Our RECOLAPHONE players were asked to participate
in a workshop at the BBC Resources Centre. The show
presenter (Ortis) and his team mate were to take part and to
learn from the children how to make these instruments and how
to play them.

Below are a few photos taken during the workshop - it is
obvious that the children had a great time. To see more about
what went on - watch out for THE WONDERFUL WORLD OF
WEIRD in February 2007!
Ready to start the workshop
"So far, so good! We're having great fun!"
Waiting for Ortis to join us.
Ortis and his team mate, John,
investigate the recolaphones.
These pictures show SOME of the shoeboxes filled by children from Antrim
Primary School. The shoeboxes were put on display at the front of the school just
before the harvest assembly at the end of October. The boxes were counted and
taken away to be given to children in Romania. The big brown boxes (far right
picture) were filled with contributions from each class in Antrim Primary. The items
supplied in these brown boxes will be sorted to make up even more shoeboxes.
Well done everybody - lots of people are going to have an extra special Christmas
this year thanks to all the generous donations from Antrim Primary.
Santa Visits Antrim Primary - arriving in a HELICOPTER!
The children heard something
unusual was about to happen!
Oh my! That's a big bird coming
towards the football pitch!
It's not a bird! It's a HELICOPTER?
What's going on? Who is arriving?
The helicopter has arrived, but who is
on board? The door is about to open.
WOW- it's SANTA has arrived to pick
up the letters from Antrim PS children!
A couple of the pupils post the letters
to Santa in his special postbox.
Santa talks to some of the children.
Santa's helper reminds the children to leave
milk and mince pies for him on Christmas Eve.
Santa and his helper have to
go back to the North Pole.
Santa waves goodbye and prepares
to leave again in the helicopter.
The helicopter takes off. The children at Antrim
Primary have had an experience never to be
forgotten.
A big thank you to the RAF for
transporting Santa to our school.

Now the children hope that Santa will be able
to bring some of the presents they asked for
when he returns on his sleigh on Christmas
Eve!

MERRY CHRISTMAS everyone!

A Science Assembly
Children from Mrs. McKee's Primary 6 class, along with a couple of
Primary 7 children, led a Key Stage 2 assembly at the end of April.
The children gave lots of information about how to "REduce, REuse and
REcycle. The attentive Key Stage 2 pupils also learned about different
types of bridges. There were examples of some of the bridges built by
Primary 6 on display.
"The Bag Lady"
The "Bag Lady" visited Antrim Primary School encouraging the pupils to "Say No to
Plastic Bags"
. She is pictured in front of the ECO Board and also with her "crew" at
the front of the school.
Can YOU cut down, reuse, or even STOP using plastic bags?
