Race Awareness
Our class entered a drawing competition and one of the themes was Race Awareness.

We had a great discussion in class and gave our opinions on this very important
subject. Chloe was so enthused she went home and wrote an essay, part of which you
can read below. She got her information from an encyclopaedia but it is written in her
own words.

PEOPLE AROUND THE WORLD.

All around us there are people with all types of religion and from all different countries.
Long ago it wasn't as easy for people to meet as it is now because transport like planes
and ships make it much faster. This helps us to learn about different countries and
meet people from different cultures so we can get together and learn about each other.
All people look different because we have all types of races. To help people survive
they developed looks and builds to suit whatever part of the world they lived in.
People that lived in the dry, hot parts of the world would probably have black skin to
protect them from the sun. Pale skinned people might have come from cloudy climates
and the sun gave them the vitamins they needed. There are lots of other different ways
that people look but we are all the same inside. We just look a little different from our
friends.

Chloe included other information in her essay but her important message was that
even though we may all look different we are all the same race because we all belong to
the HUMAN RACE.
This September our class entered Key Stage 2. Mrs. Wilson told us we would face
fresh challenges and experience a variety of new topics. But, in order to succeed
there were important things we needed to do.
Listen carefully to our assembly to find out how you can be successful too and
help build a happy school.
We thought about what school meant to us. Here are some of our ideas.

Always be
good.
Scoring
goals at football
Doing
geography.

Adding up
numbers.
Doing
neat work.
Being
nice to everyone.

Looking for
information.
Writing
interesting stories.
Having good
ideas.

Never calling names.
Being
noisy in the playground.
But
not in the class!

Running during P.E.
Using my
ruler to measure.
Reading quietly.

Learning the
alphabet.
Abiding by the rules.
Taking an
assembly.

Making a big
effort.
Trying hard at
English.
Doing my best in
exams.

Listening when the teacher talks.
Look closely at the questions.
Laugh with my friends, not at them.

If you have been listening and looking you will know how we have built such a
good school.

L E A R N I N G

Every day we learn something new. We are building up our knowledge so we can
have a good life to look forward to.
Just like this wall, every part of our school life is important. If I take away the G for
GOOD the wall will fall down. If I pull out the R for READING it will collapse. The
wall needs all the letters to stay strong. We need all the things we talked about to
keep our school strong.
We all have to do our best. Teachers and pupils working together, that is how we
will make sure our school stays a good school.

Will you do your part and try your best each day?
Good! Thumbs up to you!

Let us pray. Dear God
Help us to do our best each day.
Give us the courage to keep trying when things get tough.
Let us be kind and caring towards our friends, and respectful to our teachers.
Amen.

We will end our assembly by singing our school song.
OUR ASSEMBLY
Presentations to the class
Two girls in Mrs. Wilson's class gave presentations to the rest of their classmates.
One girl gave a talk on her holiday in Italy, using an overhead projector to show
some of the photographs that were taken of Lake Gauda and Venice.
Another girl made puppets of Jack and Jill and presented a short play to the class.
She also explained how she made the puppets. The class were very interested and
asked lots of questions.
One of the boys in room 22
talked to the class about his
hobby - formula one racing cars.
The children were very
interested in what he had to say.
Well done!
Graph Work.
Pupils using Numberbox 2 on the computer to make a graph showing the
information they have gathered. other children are drawing their graphs on
squared paper as well.
Science Week!
Making moving vehicles - preparation
What will happen when I let go?
The finished vehicles ready to test outside.
Which will travel further?
The P5's made rockets and had a competition to see whose rocket went highest.
These are two of the completed rockets, ready for take-off!
