Dear Heimpi,
How are you keeping? I am very well. Since I was
last in touch with you, a great deal has happened.
A lot has been going on, we are now in Paris, we
live in a flat. We have a new person to help us. Her
name is Grete. I wish you were here. I miss you a
lot. Grete is very grumpy, but she has gone to see
her family in Austria.
French is a hard language to learn and Max is better
than me, but I think I'm getting there. I've seen the
Eiffel Tower. It is beautiful. In Paris, they do things a
bit differently. On the 14th July, we got to stay up all
night, celebrating Bastille Day.
The food in the street cafes is not just as nice as
yours. I miss your apple strudels! Who do you work
for now? Please don't cry when you read this!
Lots of love,
Anna
We have been reading the novel, "When Hitler Stole Pink Rabbit", which was written by
Judith Kerr. We have written letters to her and hope to receive a reply.
During creative writing, we wrote letters from Anna and Max, the main characters in the
story, describing their lives since leaving Germany, at the beginning of the Second World
War. We also made up interviews between Anna or Max and Piers Morgan. Enjoy!

Dear Heimpi
How are you keeping? I am very well.
Since I was last in touch with you a great deal has
happened.

We moved to Switzerland and I was very ill, when I
recovered
we went to stay at the Gasthof Zwrin. I made friends
with the owners' daughter, she was called Vreneli. Then
Mama and Papa went to Paris, because Papa thought it
was very nice. When papa returned, mama was not with
him. We soon discovered that we were moving to Paris, to
live.
Our apartment is very small and Grete came to help
Mama and to learn French, but she is useless! As long as
we are all together, I am happy. Papa is writing for the
Daily Parisian, It is a French paper but he doesn't earn
very much money.
Max and I are going to French schools. I have made
a friend called Clothilde. I am glad that Max and I are
becoming fluent at French.
We celebrated Bastille Day with the Fernand family. It
was fun!
Hope you are well.

An Interview with Piers Morgan

P.M: Good evening Anna and welcome to the
show
Anna: Thank you it is a pleasure to be here
P.M: So Anna, life been tough for you and I would
like to ask you some questions.
Anna: Yeah sure that would be fine.
P.M: So the first nine years of your life were great,
so what was it like to find papa missing and then
being told you were moving to Switzerland?
Anna: Well, I woke that morning I knew
something was missing and it was Papa. I asked
Mama. She said Papa had gone to Switzerland.
P.M: Where did you stay in Switzerland?
Anna: We stayed in a lovely B&B called the
Gasthof Zwirn owned by the Zwirn family.
P.M: What made Papa and Mama think about
moving to Paris?
Anna: I'm not sure. I think Papa might have got a
new job.
PM: So when you moved to Paris how did you
feel?
Anna: it was hard. I didn't understand a word
anyone said. (Chuckle) I missed the Zwirn family
and my old school. I felt like I wasn't at home any
more.
P.M: What about learning French?
Anna: Wow that takes me back. Papa had learnt a
bit because he had been in Paris. Mama only
knew a couple of words and Max and I didn't
know a single word.
P.M: What about school?
Anna: School was hard in Paris, as I didn't know
any French. The work was hard. At one point I
almost gave up, I thought I was no use but Mama
and I had a little chat and after that I improved.
P.M: That was good to hear. How was life at
home?
Anna: Well, we had an Austrian girl to help us
clean called Grete. Trust me, she was useless! All
she did was complain. Mama was learning to
cook, papa was writing for a news paper so it was
great.
P.M: So you stayed in Paris for two years and then
you went to England, is that correct?
Anna: Yes that's correct. We got a train to the port,
got a port to England and then another train and
there we met Mama's cousin Otto.
P.M: so you lived in England the rest of your life?
Anna: Yes, I grew up, got married, had children,
Wrote books and that's how I'm here today.
P.M: I'm sorry to interrupt you but that's all the
time we have.
